Junor Women National: Hockey Odisha finish fourth

Hockey Odisha lost to Jharkhand 1-3 via penalty shoot out in the hardline match to finish fourth in the 4th Hockey India Junior Women National Championship (Division A) at Chamundi Vihar Hockey Ground in Mysore today. Haraya won the title for the third time in a row, defeating Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 2-0 in the final today.

Earlier, Hockey Odisha won all three of their Pool-D matches to qualify for the semifinals, where they lost to Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 2-3. In the pool matches Hockey Odisha beat Bihar 15-0, Punjab 3-0 and Mumbai 4-0. Odisha’s Rashmitha Minj was adjudged the best defender  of the championship.

March 22 (Semifinal): Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy (Rakhi Prajapati 3rd, 47th; Anuja Singh 12th) beat Hockey Odisha (Ambika Toppo (6th, 69th) 3-2.
March 23 (Hardline match): Jharkhand (Rajni Soreng, Kanti Pradhan and Sitamani Topno) beat Odisha (Sarojini Ekka) 3-1.
